Handicapabling Challenge - Week 5 Picks

If you weren't paying attention, both the Duke and I went a despicable 1-4 last weekend. This means a couple of things. First, we suck. It also works out that we ended in a tie.

We broke the tie with the Monday Night Football "game" between the Steelers and the Ravens. As my guess at the final score was closer, I will not be eating any potted meat product. The Duke will.

I said yesterday we'd soon be caught up with the bets. Big surprise, I was wrong. The Duke still needs to do his shot of Sriracha and consume a portion of disgusting potted meat product. If he loses again this week, natto will be added to his menu. For those not in the know, they're fermented soybeans. The Duke could very well have a veritable smorgasbord of gross ahead of him.

Onto the picks. It'll be pretty difficult to do worse than last week. No way one of us goes a big f'ing goose egg for five, right? Right?

First, the Duke's picks. He let me know he wouldn't be giving any sort of explanation for them, as after last week's performance, it doesn't really matter what he thinks. I've taken the liberty of filling in his thoughts for each pick with my best guess as to what is going through his head.

NOTRE DAME -7 vs. Stanford

I want to be on Charlie Weis.

Arizona St.+9 vs CALIFORNIA

Rudy Carpenter has really got it. I would love to rub his grizzled face.

Ohio St. +1 vs WISCONSIN

Tressel should take off that sweater vest. And his shirt. He has a great body.

COLORADO +13 vs. Texas

Cody Hawkins? DREAMBOAT

Penn State -13.5 vs PURDUE

JoePa wouldn't need any Viagra with me.

McLane's picks:

COLORADO +13 vs. Texas

I've been picking Hawkins and the Buffs all year. I see no reason to stop now. They may have gotten thumped last week by Florida State but back at home, they're a pretty tough team to beat.

Auburn -4-1/2 vs VANDERBILT

The smart kids will get exposed by the dumb ones.

Missouri -10-1/2 vs NEBRASKA

Chase Daniel. Your 2008 Heisman Trophy winner.

Duke +13-1/2 vs GEORGIA TECH

Riding the hot team here. That's all I got.

Arizona State +9 vs. CALIFORNIA

As a Devils fan, I'm not expecting a win. This team is lost at the moment and even Erickson said they have no identity. Skipping the implications of the team's head coach making that comment, I'll just say they'll keep it close and make it a competitive game. If the team can squeak out a win, it's a big time bonus.
